Colt International is a leader in the design, manufacture, installation and service of smoke control, climate control and louvre systems. For nearly a century, we have pioneered new approaches to create safer, healthier buildings across the UK and beyond.

Who we are

Since 1931, Colt International has been committed to making better internal environments through innovative design, precision manufacturing and expert engineering. We support our clients at every stage of their system’s lifespan, from the initial design through to manufacture and installation, alongside long-term service and maintenance.

We design and manufacture our systems using the latest modelling and production approaches and tailor them to the specific requirements of each project. We’ve worked on everything from sophisticated smoke and climate control systems which help keep occupants safe and comfortable in some of the UK’s tallest buildings, to developing advanced louvres which provide effective airflow to plant rooms whilst minimising noise pollution to their surroundings.

We are proud to operate the widest network of smoke control service engineers in the UK, backed with rigorous training and accreditation to leading standards such as IFCC SDI 05, SDI 19 and SMR 01. This means that regardless of who manufactured or installed your system, our experienced engineers can manage its servicing, ensuring it is appropriate, fully functional and complies with the latest regulations and best practice.

The history of Colt

Since the founding of Colt Ventilation in 1931, innovation has been at the heart of our business. From developing one of the first smoke control systems in 1954, to achieving the Design Council Award for our Universal Louvre in 1975 and embracing computational flow dynamic modelling techniques in the digital age, we have looked to push new frontiers with an approach that is rooted in quality design, manufacturing and engineering.

Our commitment to safety

Safety is paramount in everything we do at Colt International, from our work as a manufacturer to the systems we design, install, commission and service.

We hold several recognised accreditations, including Achilles (CAS), Avetta (SSiP), Construction Line, Safe Contractor.

We work with staff to help deliver this vision on the ground. Providing dedicated training and supporting them to achieve relevant accreditation, such as ensuring all Project and Site Managers are trained to CITB Site Management Safety Certificate level, as a minimum.

Through our system-level design approach, we ensure that our solutions are tailored to your building and fully compliant with current regulations, industry standards and best practices.

Our accreditations

Colt International is committed to achieving the highest standards in our practice. We were the first smoke control business in the UK to be certified to both IFCC SDI 19 and SDI 05, recognising us as competent installers of smoke control systems and smoke and fire curtains. We were also amongst the first businesses to be certified under the IFCC SMR 01 service and maintenance scheme for smoke control systems, recognising us as a competent maintainer of these systems.
