Evaporative cooling systems

Our energy-efficient evaporative cooling systems are designed to help maintain comfortable environments with a notably lower operational cost than air conditioning systems. With our full turn-key approach, Colt International can design, manufacture, install and maintain our climate control systems to ensure efficient and affordable long-term operation.

Our evaporative cooling solutions

Through our leading range of evaporative cooling solutions and an expert in-house design team, Colt International can develop tailored climate control systems which provide both cooling and ventilation with lower operating costs than conventional air conditioning systems. These solutions take advantage of the natural process of evaporation, passing incoming air through a wet desorption medium. The water draws heat from the air to evaporate, efficiently cooling the air.

Our ErP-certified CoolStream evaporative coolers are suitable for a wide range of new and existing projects, including warehouses, shopping centres, leisure and exhibition centres. The units are manufactured from high-quality aluminium at our UK manufacturing site, supporting long-term performance. In addition to cooling, solutions in this range also offer mixed-mode and warm indoor air recirculation functionality to lower bills during cooler months.

Colt International offer a full end-to-end service and can carry out the design, installation and maintenance of your system.

Working with Colt

With decades of experience delivering ventilation and climate control solutions, Colt International will support you at each step in your project.

Design

Our experienced designers will work with you to understand your system requirements. This can include carrying out surveys on existing systems to understand performance and identify potential improvements. Our in-house team will then develop a system that is tailored and optimised for your project.

Manufacture

Once a system design is agreed, we will manufacture and supply all components from our UK manufacturing facility, carefully coordinating with the site team to schedule delivery and installation.

Installation

We can handle the installation and commissioning of your system, supporting the facilities team to fully understand the system and how it operates at handover.

Maintenance

With a UK-wide network of highly trained service engineers, we can proactively service and maintain your climate control system, ensuring it is operating correctly and extending its lifespan.

FAQs

What is an evaporative cooling system?

Evaporative cooling systems use the natural process of evaporation to cool incoming air and circulate it around a building. Within a typical unit, air is drawn in with a fan and passed through a water-laden material, which cools the air. It is then circulated around the building.

How do evaporative cooling systems work?

Evaporative cooling systems work by passing warm air over water. As the air passes, the water absorbs a relatively large amount of its heat energy in order to evaporate, causing the air to cool.

What’s the difference between evaporative cooling and air conditioning?

Evaporative cooling systems typically have far lower energy demands and operating costs than air conditioning systems. This is due to the different approaches these two systems use to cool air.

Evaporative cooling systems pass incoming air through wet materials, using the process of evaporation to cool the air. In contrast, air conditioning units use a refrigerant, which is compressed and passed between a warm evaporator coil and a cold condenser coil. As the refrigerant passes through the evaporator coil, it heats and turns into a gas, absorbing heat energy from the indoor air and cooling it. It then passes through the condenser coil, which cools it and releases the heat outside the building. This process is much more energy-intensive than the process for evaporative cooling systems.
