Colt provided a complete smoke extract, fume extract and ventilation solution for this exciting new residential development.
Forming a part of Quintain’s massive 85-acre development in Wembley, Canada Gardens, a new 743-home development, is built around a private garden and over an acre in size itself. The development also features a clubhouse, designer summer house, allotments and spectacular roof terraces.
Colt was specified on this impressive and exciting residential project by Hurley Palmer Flatt because of the quality and suitability of our systems. Our innovative CoolStream evaporative cooling units gave us an advantage over our competitors as it offers an effective and low-cost alternative to traditional air conditioning systems. It also has the advantage of being more effective than a purely natural ventilation solution, meaning you get mechanical-level cooling with a fraction of the energy expenditure, and with zero f-gas installation.
The key requirement from Colt on this project was to provide smoke extract and day-to-day ventilation for the corridors. As everything is double-insulated on this project, the corridors can get very warm, and there was a need for an ambient climate control solution for which CoolStream was perfect.

In addition to providing smoke extract and climate control for the residential buildings, we also had to provide fume extract for a coach park. Our specialist knowledge and the purpose-built product range we provide helped to ensure that this project was completed on time and within budget. The fact that we could provide HE Simms with all their residential systems needs as well as the coach park system needs provided time management and cost-saving benefits that helped to streamline the project, and is one of the benefits of working with a company the size of Colt.
One of the other benefits of working with Colt is the ease of installation involved with our systems. On large residential projects such as this, the building heights may vary, but internal layouts generally stay the same. For example, whilst Colt worked on 7x different residential blocks on this development, ranging between 8 – 24 floors, the modular nature of our systems allowed our designers to develop a system that required very little alteration from one block to the next, helping to speed up installation and commissioning time.
